Create a Student Organization
So you want to create a student organization? That's great! We, the Student Organization Committee ,
are always happy to see students who want to become involved with on-campus activities. Creating an organization
is a pretty easy process. Just follow the 10 steps below and make your dream of a new organization a
reality.
Instructions for Creating a Student Organization
-
Get some friends together...you will need at least five students to create your own organization and you must complete the
Student Organization packet
.
-
Complete the 'Student Organization Contact Information Update Form'
-
Complete the 'Student Organization Information Form'.
-
The information on this form is used for publications about the different organizations on campus
|
-
Go to 'Print' icon in the top left hand corner of Adobe Acrobat Reader
-
Select 'Print All Documents'
-
Using the model provided, type a 'Letter of Intent to Organize'
-
Using the model provided, type a 'Constitution and By-Laws'
-
These are vital. The Student Organization Coordinator (who will end up storing all of your paperwork) is in charge of keeping the most recent copy of your Constitution and By-Laws on file.
|
-
Find a faculty member to serve as your advisor. Ask them to complete and sign the 'Advisor Agreement Form'
-
Be sure you get all of your signatures:
-
Your Advisor needs to sign twice
-
You need to sign three times
-
Your friends all need to sign once
|
-
Submit the entire completed packet (there should be five different documents) to the Involvement Center front desk (in University Center)
|
Tips
-
If you need to email potential members or want to chat about things before filling out your paperwork, contact the Student Organization Coordinator. They can help you secure a meeting room or send out an all-campus email.
-
Tackle the Constitution and By-Laws last. They should define how your organization will run. (Take what you like from the example and leave what you don't like. This is your organization...make it run the way you want it to.)
-
Remember, you don't need to finalize everything right now. Leave some things open (like dues) until you get a better feel for your group. You don't want to set something in that can never be changed.
-
Be patient. You may be asked to come and meet with the Student Organization Committee
. Overall, the process is pretty easy, but could take a few weeks.
-
If you have any questions contact studentorgs@uwrf.edu
, call (715)425-4444 or stop in and see the Student Organization Coordinator.
