Faculty/Staff Advisor Role Description

Destination is a student led program where faculty/staff advisors serve as a resource to the Destination leaders. Faculty and staff advisors are representatives on a trip planned by students and the Involvement Center. Advisors should be knowledgeable about all aspects of the trip, assist the student trip leaders as needed, and encourage student participants to connect their service to academic topics related to their projects and/or host city. No previous experience with community service is necessary to participate as an advisor.

Faculty/Staff Advisor Expectations
  • Serve as a resource and support, not a co-leader, for the student trip leaders
  • Attend group trainings to encourage team building and understand all trip logistics and expectations, as available
  • Attend trip with student leaders and student participants
  • Participate in all service and reflection experiences during the trip
  • Contribute an educational component to the trip – either during the trip or before the trip training
  • Participate in the full experience, including "roughing it" with regards to accommodations, meals and travel
