Intramural Headlines

3 on 3 Basketball Tournament

The Recreation Department is now taking sign-ups for it's annual 3 on 3 basketball tournament, which will take place on Monday, November 23, 2009. Your team must be registered online by 5:00pm on Monday, November 23, 2009. Tournaments in Men's, Women's, and CoRec divisions will be offered. The tournament will begin promptly at 7:00pm in Knowles. A brief captain meeting will be held at 6:45pm. Team check in will begin at 6:30pm in the lobby of Knowles.

Intramural Dodgeball

Get ready to dive, dip, dodge, duck, and dive out of the way. On Monday, November 9, 2009 the Recreation Department will be hosting a CoRec Dodgeball tournament beginning at 7:00pm in the Karges gymnasium. You can register now online and team registration fee is just $15.00. Your team must be registered by 4:00pm on Monday, November 9, 2009 in order to play.

Thursday Night $5 Bowling

Thursday, October 29, 2009 is fast approaching which means so is the Recreation Department's annual Halloween Bowling outing. St. Croix Lanes is the site and doors will open at 9:15pm with bowling starting at 9:30pm and lasting until 11:00pm. Grab your friends and your favorite costume as we will be giving out prizes to the best costume and highest score for both male and female bowlers. You do not have to be in costume to attend. Cost is only $5. Please sign-up online. We will also take sign-ups at the door on Thursday.

Indoor Volleyball

It's now that time of the year to head indoors for Intramurals. To start off the indoor season, we have Volleyball which will start October 25th. All of the games will be held at the Knowles Indoor Complex. We will be offering a Men's Competitive and Recreation League, a Women's Competitive and Recreation League, and lastly a Coed Competitive and Recreation League. Team sign ups are available online now! A mandatory captain's meeting will be held on Thursday, October 22.

Open Hockey

The ice in Hunt Arena is now in! This means it is time for another wonderful winter of hockey. The Recreation Department is offering you the chance to play some hockey with your friends in open skating time. We have reserved a few nights throughout the year. The evening dates and times for open hockey are as follows:

  • Monday, October 5, 2009
  • Wednesday, October 21, 2009
  • Wednesday, February 3, 2010
  • Monday, February 15, 2010
  • Thursday, March 4, 2010

All open hockey times will run from 9:00pm-10:15pm.

Also, new this year we have started a weekly option for all of you hockey junkies. Starting Tuesday, November 3, 2009, there will be an open hockey opportunity from 12:00pm-1:15pm every Tuesday. The hope of the Recreation Department is that these increased opportunities both at night and weekly will satisfy the hunger that resides deep in all hockey fans.

Cornhole "Bean Bags" Tournament

On Thursday, September 24, 2009, Falcon Programs and Campus Recreation are hosting the first annual Cornhole "Bean Bags" Tournament. Winner takes home an Intramural T-Shirt and a brand new Bean Bag game. The tournament is an individual competition and you can sign up online and registration is free.

Broomball is Back

Broomball is back! That's right, the most popular sport in UWRF Intramurals, Women's Broomball, is back for another year. Team sign-ups are now online at My Intramurals and will be open until 8:00am on Friday, September 25, 2009. We will be hosting a mandatory captains meeting on Thursday, September 24, 2009, at 7:00pm in the St. Croix Room of UC.

There has been some confusion as to the start date. The campus/student planner has published that sign-ups are this week. This is incorrect as the ice in Hunt Arena will not go in until next week.

Mark your calendars for Thursday, September 24, 2009 and let's play some broomball.

New Year for Intramurals

With the Intramural season fast approaching, please catch yourself up on our rules and policies. We have new criteria in our Team of the Year competition, and have made changes in our other leagues. See you all at the mandatory captain's meeting on Thursday, September 10, 2009 at 7:00pm in the UC St. Croix River Room.

$5.00 Golf Opportunity

Wednesday, September 23, 2009 from 1:00pm - 3:00pm, the Recreation Department is hosting a golf outing at the River Falls Golf Club. The cost is $5.00 for 9 holes. You must call the golf course and reserve your own tee time. The golf course phone number is (715)425-7253.

An Intramural Championship T-shirt will go to the Men's and Women's top finishers on the day. Register and pay your entry fee online.

Fall Intramural Sign-Ups

With the start of a new year brings the much anticipated return of the Intramural season! The Recreation Department is now taking sign-ups for the following sport leagues:

  • Flag Football (Men)
  • Soccer (Co-Rec)
  • Ultimate Frisbee (Co-Rec)
  • Sand Volleyball (Co-Rec, Women)

Leagues will offer competitive and recreation divisions.

Team sign-ups must be completed by 8:00am on Friday, September 11, 2009. No teams will be allowed into leagues after that. There will be a mandatory captains meeting on Thursday, September 10, 2009 at 7:00pm in the St. Croix River Room of University Center. This meeting will be counted towards sportsmanship rankings, and for those new to our program, this could effect your playoff eligibility.

We are looking forward to an outstanding year in Intramurals complete with a new Team of the Year contest. Team of the Year trophies are now up for grabs in the Women's division, Men's division, and Co-Rec division.

Labor Day Sand Volleyball

What a better way to celebrate the start of a new school year than with a sand volleyball tournament? Labor Day, Monday, September 7, 2009, Residence Life and Campus Recreation are hosting a Co-Rec Sand Volleyball Tournament on the Crabtree Volleyball Courts. Games start at 10:30am and the day will be filled with games, music and FREE FOOD!

Please sign-up online prior to the Monday, September 7, 2009. We will also have on-site registration beginning at 9:00am.

Also, this is the first opportunity of the year for your intramural team to begin the journey to being crowned Intramural Team of the Year.

See the Minnesota Twins!

The Minnesota Twins are making a run at the 2009 American League Central title and you have a chance to witness them live against division rival Detroit courtesy of Residence Life, Campus Recreation, and Falcon Programs.

The Twins take on the Detroit Tigers on Friday, September 18, 2009, at 7:05. For $15 you receive a ticket to the game and transportation to the Metrodome. Buy your tickets now at the Involvement Center Desk in University Center. Tickets are on sale now through Thursday, September 3, 2009, and only a limited number of tickets will be held after that.
