Extended Housing
We assign people to rooms in the order we received their housing contract agreement form and their housing deposit.
At the beginning of each fall term we anticipate having over 100% occupancy. When all of our regular residence hall rooms are filled,
we place those students who didn't sign their housing contracts as early as other students into extended (temporary) housing.
There are three types of extended housing rooms: sharing a room with a resident assistant, repurposed double rooms,
and converted lounges. The first two room types are just like normal double rooms. The last room type, converted lounges,
has lots of room. All of these room types are usually used for other purposes.
Therefore a student will only be in extended housing until another space opens up and it is their turn to move
(based on the date we receive the housing contract agreement form).
We find that the majority of people placed in extended housing would like to remain in extended housing even when space opens up.
But we need that space for other reasons, so they have to move.
Students placed in extended housing will receive furniture (beds; dressers; tables and chairs; mini-refrigerators; telephone, computer,
and cable television access).
The rooms are located on regular residence hall floors adjacent to our permanent rooms and are securable with room keys issued to all occupants.
Regardless of the length of stay, residence hall staff members remain available to provide the same levels of assistance, interest,
and information-sharing that all other residents receive.
Students remaining in extended housing after the 15th of each month will also receive small credits to their university accounts to help compensate for not having permanent housing.
