Hot or Not….Eye Black, High School Uniforms and Short Shorts?
As the UWRF Intramural Softball season is finally upon us we would like to
discuss the subject of fashion on the field. Though many of us have lived
our glory days out in high school playing fast pitch softball or baseball,
the game of slow pitch softball is quite different than that or our past high
school days. There are a few fashion concerns that we have for all the
participants in this year’s leagues.
The first concern we have is the overuse of eye black. Does everyone know why
eye black is useful in the sport of softball? It reduces the reflection of
light off the cheeks. So it isn’t a cute fashion statement that should be made
by girls who do not know the purpose it truly serves. So if you’re facing the
sun and can’t see a ball screaming towards your face, please use some eye black
and possibly a hat to avoid broken noses and black eyes. But if your soul
purpose of using eye black is to look cute or intimidating we suggest you leave
the eye black home.
Lets just clear the air here, high school letterman’s jackets should NOT be worn
at college. Sure high school was fun while it lasted but let’s be honest, it’s
time to move on. You’re in college now, live it up! It is time to retire those
old letterman’s jackets and especially those old high school uniforms. It really
does look tacky and as though you are trying to make college reflect your “glory
days”. We suggest that you find a box, put the old uniforms and jackets in it
and bury them in the back of a closet. Get new shirts made that state the here
and now, not those of your yesteryears.
Ok girls, please do not wear those short shorts. Softball is played on dirt which
give one nasty little raspberry when slid on. We as supervisors do not feel the
need to pick out rocks and dirt from your behind when all you could have done to
prevent it was wear a pair of spandex under a classy pair of shorts.
All in all, these three fashion blunders are NOT HOT!!
