Successful Floor Hockey Tournament Caps a Great Winter Season for Intramurals
New experiences with Sunday night volleyball, ping pong tournaments,
basketball hoopla, and a huge bowling turnout proved to be winners this
winter season. With all of the hockey seasons coming to an end the
river falls floor hockey tournament put an official end to winter
sports. Lets take a look back and see what a wonderful winter it
was for IM sports.
Volleyball went out on a limb and added Sunday night games. What once
was only a weekday activity, Intramurals has found a way on to the
weekend schedule. Now the week started off right with some v-ball before
Monday morning classes. With low forfeit numbers this proved to be a
popular decision and will become a staple in future years.
Next was the creation of championship night basketball hoopla. In its
first year in existence there were great numbers for participation.
Great events like the 3 pt challenge, shooting for a shirt, co-ed hot
spot, free throw contest, and the most popular lightning game drew in
good numbers which are sure to rise next year as word gets out. The
season was capped off by a nail bitter in the men’s competitive which
drew quite a crowd.
Sadly the winter season came to an end with March madness, state high
school tournaments, and college hockey championships. UWRF has had one
of the last gasps of winter though putting on its annual floor hockey
tournament. The new addition of regulation hockey goals put scoring
back on the map as teams scored on average of a combined 12 goals a
game in an exciting tournament.
