Incoming Students
Fall

Welcome to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls! The following is what happens regarding Student Affairs when you are accepted to the University for the Fall term. If your first term will be J-Term, Spring, or Summer, things happen a little differently.

Soon after you are admitted to UWRF, you will receive through the mail a brochure that tells you about housing opportunities on campus and lets you know how to sign a housing contract. Signing a contract is an online(external) process.

Take a look at the housing contract(PDF) for incoming Fall students. It may help answer many of your housing questions.

Moving in

If you would like to live on campus (and we hope you do!), go online to sign the housing contract and pay the housing deposit. The sooner you do this the better since your room assignment is based on the received date of the contract and deposit. We guarantee housing assignments either in permanent or temporary housing to all new students who complete housing contracts and pay the $125.00 housing deposit/processing fee by Monday, March 1, 2010. We will continue to accept contracts and deposits after March 1 and will make every attempt to accommodate as many students as space allows. As part of the online contract process you can also give us your vaccination dates.

If you decide not to live on campus, make sure you meet the exemption requirements(PDF).

If you would like to commute and you meet the requirements for commuting, you will need to complete a commuter application. This can be done online(external).

After signing the housing contract and paying the $125.00 housing deposit/processing fee, you can find a roommate(external) and then tell us your housing preferences(external). These services are available until Saturday, May 1, 2010.

Part of university life is to broaden your experience and one way to do this is to be a member of a student organization. You can tell us which organizations(external) interest you at the same time you tell us your housing preferences.

If you would like to participate in one of our meal plans for the Fall Term, tell us which meal plan you would like to be on. All students residing in the residence halls (with the exception of South Fork Suites) are required to select a meal plan as a part of their room and board. Many others find our meal plans valuable and participate in them.

Moving in

After room assignments are made in the summer, you will receive a letter letting you know your room assignment. This letter also includes your roommate contact information. It would be best to contact your roommate in order to find out a bit about each other and determine who is going to bring what. If you didn't get your preferred side of campus or requested roommate, it was because when housing assignments were made in the order that the housing contract and deposit were received, and your preferred areas were already filled before your assignment.

Take a look at our last minute checklist of items to bring, and what not to bring!

If you will be living in the residence halls and have any computer or television support questions contact dots@uwrf.edu(email). The DoTS store(external) is your source for network cables and other accessories.

If you plan on bringing a car to campus, Public Safety(external) has the parking rules and regulations.

It would be wise to attend WOW(external)! WOW(external) gives new students the opportunity to meet other students, connect with upper class group leaders(external), and get to know the University - all while having lots of fun!
